December Recap + 2016 In Review

Can you believe that another year has passed? 2016 has been a blast, a mix of fun and worse things have happened for the past twelve months, and I have learned a lot. There weren’t much that I did for the last month. In fact, I’ve only read two books and I’m still trying to finish My True Love Gave To Me. That didn’t stop me from hauling books, though!

For this past month, I got 7 books, and some ebooks both from Amazon’s sale and for review, in which I’ll share on my next book haul.

2016 IN REVIEW

I’m just really lucky to have met my reading goals and finish my reading challenges. And of course, I wanted to share my Top 16 Favorites for 2016! Don’t worry, I only included the ones published already!

TOP 16 BOOKS FOR 2016!

The Year We Fell Apart by Emily Martin. This is a story of second chances and there’s just so many feels!

The Hometown Hazard by Dawn Lanuza. This has a mystery to it but OH THE FLUFF!!!

On The Fence by Kasie West. I mean, it’s Kasie West. Of course, she’s going to be on the list because I love her writing! But this one, it’s childhood friends/best friends turned to lovers which is basically my kind of trope. I love this trope so much! I also got to read Kasie’s upcoming novel, By Your Side, and I loved it so much!

Defending Taylor by Miranda Kenneally. Miranda’s one of my favorite authors and Hundred Oaks series is one of the first YA’s I have ever read and every book just gets better and better.

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan. Oh, Apollo is just my favorite and I really enjoyed this book! I’m super excited for the next books in the series!

Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes. This book has a very special place in my heart. It’s about anxiety and coping up and I read it very timely, during my lowest point and I really was able to relate to the characters. I’m so grateful for having this book in my life.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi. This was one of my most anticipated reads for this year and I really enjoyed reading it! It’s basically a retelling of Hades and Persephone mixed with Indian culture.

What About Today by Dawn Lanuza. Dawn is honestly one of my favorite authors! And this is my favorite book of hers. It’s a quick read but it gives so much!

The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas. Kara Thomas is a genius when it comes to writing thrillers, I swear to god. She’s also having another thriller called Little Monsters to be released July 2017 which I had the chance to read early and I loved it as well!

Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum. OH DEAR! I fell head over heels! I have so much love for this book! It’s a mix of romance, friendship, family, and coping up with grief. I can’t wait to read more of Julie Buxbaum’s work because her writing is beautiful!

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. No words. Really, if you haven’t read Illuminae yet, better work on that because Gemina is a million times crazier.

Vicious by V.E. Schwab. OKAY SO THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING IT’S MY FAVORITE FROM VICTORIA AND I STILL CAN’T FORM COHERENT THOUGHTS SO I HAVE NO DRAFT OF A REVIEW OR WHATEVER JUST GO READ IT I PROMISE! IF YOU LIKE ANTI-HEROES GO READ THIS BOOK!

Everyone We’ve Been by Sarah Everett. I need more people to read this book because it’s so underrated. It’s diverse and it’s basically like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

For This Life Only by Stacey Kade. This book is just full of emotions. It’s a little sad since it’s about grief, and coping up, but it’s really enjoyable!

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord. Music, friendship, cute guy. What more can I ask for?

The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon. Here it is. My ultimate favorite for 2016. I still swoon just by thinking about this book. I know there are other people who didn’t enjoy it and yeah, I guess this book isn’t for everyone but there’s no harm in trying. Hahaha!

Other 2016 Highlights

I met two lovely authors for this year! Jennifer Niven and Morgan Matson! They were so kind and I’m really lucky to have met them!

Of course, I also got the pleasure to co-host another Bookworms Unite PH! This year’s Bookworms Unite was a big level-up compared to the one we had last year. The guests doubled in numbers which meant more books and more fun! And for next year, well… I guess you should watch out!

Last September, I had the pleasure of being invited by Ethos Books, a publishing company based in Singapore, for a meet up during the Manila International Book Fair! It was really fun and we had a great time chatting with award-winning writers!

For Movies, of course, I enjoyed Captain America Civil War and I’m excited to see what the MCU’s bringing to us for the next years. Especially for Bucky’s character. I even binged the comics because I can’t get enough of Bucky. From one Marvel to another, Deadpool is hilarious! I really enjoyed that movie! Another movie I enjoyed was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! Newt was such an adorable character and he’s a Hufflepuff like me! Yay Hufflepuffs! I’m just so pumped to be back to the Wizarding World (even if Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald was meh). Moana was amazing too! I really loved the story, representation, and the soundtrack!

I also enjoyed Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Star Trek Beyond, which made me miss Anton Yelchin more. But the biggest highlight in my movie scene for 2016 was Rogue One. I can go on and on about Rogue One because it made watching the original trilogy better (especially with Carrie Fisher gone now *cries* ). They’re definitely the unsung heroes of the rebellion.

I didn’t have enough time to watch TV/Netflix series but I did enjoy Stranger Things! I’m back with my usual watching habits but the only shows I have followed faithfully were Game of Thrones, Agents of SHIELD, and The Flash. I tried Quantico but I still haven’t finished it, now I’m into Outlander. I have been binge watching Outlander since Wednesday. Oh, the Sense8 Christmas special was amazing too!

I think I’ve grown to love a lot of music artists this year, though. Like LANY, Vance Joy, Saint Motel, and HAMILTON! Definitely the biggest highlight of 2016! I don’t regret even a millisecond of listening to the Hamilton soundtrack! My favorite band, Bastille also dropped their newest album, Wild World, and I really loved it.

So that sums up my year. It has been a wild ride and I can’t wait for 2017! Hope it will be better for all of us because I know we’ve had enough shit from 2016 already. Cheers to a positive year ahead!
