Stacking the Shelves #25 + July Recap

stackingStacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews which features our newest additions to our shelves.

Hello! Welcome to another edition of me trying to bury myself with books! Hahaha! But luckily though, the last time I bought a book was around three weeks ago for my birthday. This week, I received three book mails and my mum was cool enough to hand them to me when I met up with her earlier this week. And yes, basically almost all of these books are for review.

July Recap

July is my birthmonth! I turned 21 last July 6th and it was such a blast for me because I got to spend time with my family. Of course, I bought books for my birthday!

This month, we also had Bookworms Unite PH! I’m sure you’ve heard of this, and it’s basically the highlight of my month!

I also spent almost the whole month binge-reading Ed Brubaker’s run of Captain America, aka where Bucky Barnes was introduced as The Winter Soldier, and later as Captain America. In case you still haven’t noticed, Bucky is one of my favorite characters also *cough* Sebastian Stan *cough*, so I really enjoyed reading the series! It’s also the closest basis of the MCU for the Cap movies and there were lots of parallels from the comics and the movie, especially for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Books Read

A World Without You by Beth Revis
Defending Taylor by Miranda Kenneally
The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon
Because I Love You by Tori Rigby
The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas
Captain America: The Winter Soldier Vol. 1-2
Captain America: The Red Menace Vol. 1-2
Civil War
Captain America: The Death of Captain America Vol. 1-3
Captain America: The Man with No Face
Captain America: The Road to Reborn

I’m glad I’m kicking ass with my reading challenges and it’s only halfway through the year. I’m planning on extending it to maybe 60-65 books!

I’m also participating for ARC August and here’s a list of ARCs that I’m most probably be reading:

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
Everyone We’ve Been by Sarah Everett
You Before Anyone Else by Julie Cross and Mark Perini
Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow
For This Life Only by Stacey Kade
Gemini by Stacey Mukherjee
Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Tell Us Something True by Dana Reinhardt
Change Places with Me by Lori Meltzger
What The Dead Want by Norah Olson
We Own The Night by Ashley Poston
Tone Deaf by Olivia Rivers
The Sound of Us by Julie Hammerle

THIRTEEN BOOKS. It seems farfetched for me and I’m a mood reader and I know I won’t be able to read all of these in thirty-one days but I need to read at least seven from these pile. And yes, I’m restricting my tbr list with these books.

  1. Ooh, I need to read An Ember in the Ashes. It feels like it’s only just out to me and then suddenly there’s another book. AAH.

Also, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes is perfection (so much acting with just his eyes!), and I’ll be sad if he never wields the shield (more than he has already, anyway; there’s been a few scenes).

    My STS.

    1. OH GOD I KNOW! That’s why The Winter Soldier is my favorite Marvel movie amongst all from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because Sebastian Stan conveys a crapload of emotions with his eyes (not to mention his eyes are beautiful haha) and I’m super duper glad that Infinity Wars will have the same directors as The Winter Soldier and Civil War because the Russo Brothers definitely know what they’re doing!

Yes, do read Ember! It’s one of the best books I’ve read last year!

  2. You had SUCH a great week–I’m SO looking forward to seeing reviews for Nevernight, I’ve heard pretty great things about it so far! Here’s hoping you enjoy all your recent acquisitions!

Have a great rest of your weekend–and happy book-ing to you, in the near future!
