If they say that life flashes right before your eyes when you die, do you also get a flashback of your exes when your perfect boyfriend is proposing to you? At least that’s the case for Regina Cortez. There’s her dramatic high school boyfriend, her first college crush, the irresistible heart breaker, and the ever elusive one. By backtracking to her past, will Regina make it to ‘I Do’? Or will she just keep running away?
I’ve been wanting to read contemporary fics by Filipino authors for a while now so I couldn’t miss this chance. The Boyfriend Backtrack was really a great read! I was hooked since page one.
If I was Alice stuck in Wonderland, this book would have that sign that reads, “READ ME” on it. It just begs to be read and the thing is, it actually deserves to be!
I think one of the reasons why I liked this book was because it was very relatable, well since it’s written by a Filipina. The characters seemed realistic and very “Pinoy”, which was a plus. The story might be a bit cliche, but sometimes cliche works and it did for this instance. It’s the kind of book that will give you that kilig vibe you’re looking for.
“I believe that the ‘love of your life’ is just a person that you chose. You choose them because you believe that they’re it.”
The idea of the ex-boyfriends was really interesting though, so were the characters. Regina, the main character, was your typical modern chic Filipina. It’s very refreshing to read such character which deviates a bit from the typical ones I’m used to reading from American contemporary novels. It was so easy to put myself into her shoes and have a deeper look into her character. I quite liked her character, but the way she disappears and seem to run away from her past just bothered me. And that was the major part of the story
The boys, well there’s only one that I really liked from Regina’s pool of exes. I’m so happy they got together and reunited at the end.The love story was a bit predictable but still, it’s pretty much reserved. I won’t tell who it is, but I had some predictions that it’s going to be him because their chemistry is just so adorable!
“I realize that not everyone could be granted the chance of getting a decent closure – most people just deal with the decisions they made then on their own.”
Definitely recommend! Especially to Filipina readers looking for a chick-lit fix.
